Homework
The following is a list of expectations for each year group. Your child should have brought home a number of items to support their learning. Should your child need extra reinforcement or stretch they may be given different work to that described for their year group. This will be at the teacher’s discretion and they will discuss this with you if this is the case.
All children will be expected to bring in their reading record books in their book bags on the allocated days. Children’s reading record book should also be used as a contact book should you have any important message you wish to pass to the teacher.
Reading
Years 1-3: Read with your child every day. All children will have a reading book sent home from school until they reach Year 3 age related expectations for reading. Year groups will inform you what day books are changed.
Years 3-6 :Children will be required to read a book of their choice daily. Children below Year 3 age related expectations will continue with reading scheme books. Children are expected to read for a minimum of 10 minutes per day in Year 3, rising to 20 minutes daily in Y6.
Phonics – Reception- Year 1: Please check the weekly newsletter for the focus sounds and related activities to support with these at home.
Spellings – Years 1-6 : Children will have a weekly spelling test based on phonics, year group spelling lists and topic/ challenge words. These will be sent home each week.
Handwriting – Year 1 will have a weekly handwriting task which will be explained in the weekly newsletter.
English task-Year 6:- This will be sent home weekly. Year 5 will receive this from the summer term onwards.
Maths – Reception - Year 2: please check the weekly newsletter for the weekly maths teaching focus and related activities to support with these at home. Year 2 will also start to focus on times-tables.
Years 3 -5 -the focus for homework is times-tables. In the table below you will find guidance for which times tables to focus on . All children should know their times-tables up to 12 by the end of Year 4, with the corresponding division facts. These should be continued until all are secure.
Year 6 -will have an additional maths task weekly. Year 5 will have a maths task sent home weekly starting in the summer term.
Topic – Y3-Y6 Each half term, children will be set a choice of activities based on their topic. Children should choose at least one activity from those listed. This is optional for Year 6. At the end of each half term, one piece of homework will be presented at a class homework ‘showcase’.
Jewish Studies – Children will be given a Hebrew Reading task, a parashah discussion sheet (which will begin after half term) and an Ivrit task (years 3-6).
